10 Questions You Always Wanted to Ask a Zero Waste Blogger!

zero-waste-bloggers-network

A few weeks ago I was invited to be a part of a lovely group of people called the Zero Waste Bloggers Network. I’ve learned so much from them and can’t wait to grow on my zero waste  journey! I was tagged by Annika and I’m tagging Kara, Michelle, and Stephanie! Here it goes!

How / Why did you first start switching to a Zero Waste lifestyle?

I don’t really think there was a specific time. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about the environment (I won an Earth Day drawing contest when I was in 1st grade and got to go with all the other winners and plant trees). But I didn’t really get into the zero waste scene until recently.

Since when are you pursuing a zero waste lifestyle?

I’m still a baby in the zero waste world, probably only a few months or so. However, my family has recycled for as long as I can remember and that sort of thing, I just didn’t know it was called something. 🙂

What are some of your favorite ways to avoid trash?

Making my own things, not using something at all, reusing things, there’s so many!

How do you have so much time to make all that stuff from scratch?

There’s time for things that you want there to be time for. Once you start some of these “projects”, you see that it really doesn’t take much time at all!

How much garbage do you / does your family produce per week?

My family (my parents, my sister and I) only have about 3 trash bags a month, not including recycling.

Must be expensive to cook from scratch. Are you rich?

Hardly! Haha. I always look for things I need and wait until they are on sale and buy in bulk when I can.

What were the hardest things to give up?

Since I’m really just starting, I don’t feel like I’ve given up anything!

What are your compromise items (not zero waste but you still buy them)?

Gifts, foods I haven’t figured out how to make from scratch yet.

What are your favourite Zero Waste Blogs?

There’s so many I’ve found since joining the network! A few are:

What’s one random fun fact about you?

I love fairy tale/fantasy stories! Disney, books, Once Upon A Time, you name it! Does anyone else watch Once Upon A Time?!

Alrighty, that’s it! For the people I tagged, I can’t wait to see your answers!

March Goals

Here are my goals this month. At the end of this month I’ll come back to these and reflect on how I did. Here goes!

  • Read some of the bible every day
  • Read at least two books (I finished Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie today, does that count?!)
  • Open my Etsy shop
  • Blog twice a week
  • Continue to declutter my room
  • Sell clothes on vinted or poshmark (let me know if you use either of these! I love them!)
  • Work out  at least 4 times a week

Okay, seeing them all written out, it looks like a lot but I think I’ve got this! If anyone has any time management ideas or tips, pleaaase help a sister out. What are your goals for March?

Dreams to Plans

Have you ever read a book that literally changed your life? Like, see every day differently because of a book? Okay here’s a little story.
So towards the end of 2014 I kept having this same thought pop in my head: “I want to build a school”. How in the world is a person like me supposed to build a school?! How does anyone go about building a school?! So I went to the library and looked up “nonprofits” in the catalog. I went to the first book in the list. It had a man with a bunch of kids on the cover, was calledThe Promise of a Pencil. That’s all I knew about it when I walked out with it in my hand.

I started reading it and was shocked. Almost in tears by the God wink of it all, this book told the story of the man on the cover, Adam Braun. He started Pencils of Promise, an organization that builds schools.
I finished the book this week and you have to read it. No question.
I’m so determined to build a school. I have no idea how, but I will. Whether I work through Pencils of Promise or somehow start something myself, I’ve got to do it.
What’s a book that’s changed your life? Is there something that you’re super determined to do? I want to know!
